      The Founding Meeting 26th - 29th June

For this year's Founding Meeting 26 members arrived at Brora to contest the Curate's Egg, play against Royal Dornoch and enter the James Braid Open and close with the Mixed Foursomes. The weather, for a change, was excellent with long hours of sunshine. The event kicked off on the Thursday with the members playing for The Curate's Egg which was won by Lachlan McIntosh and The St Andrews Stableford prize of a bottle of Clynelish was claimed by Robert Powell. The evening reception and dinner at which the prizes were awarded was the usual riotous Society affair with the Captain being heckled at every opportunity. Various fines were dished out and as a result the evening was assisted by copious amounts of Port.
However, the highlight of the evening was the award of Honorary Membership to Hugh Bailie, for long and dedicated service to golf in Brora. Hugh also wrote an informative book on Golf in Brora
The Friday dawned brightly, but unfortunately this was not matched by the talent displayed by the Society members in their match against Royal Dornoch. As Malcolm said, "the result is inconsequential, it is the making of friends that matters". Perhaps our opponents had local knowledge, who knows!!

On the Saturday The James Braid Open was won by Neil Hampton who also won the James Braid Trophy and the Captain's Bunnet was won by Michael Herriot.

Incidentally, apart from Members from the UK we were joined by the Wallstens from Sweden, David Kramer from California and Mario from Hong Kong who was accompanied by his new wife. Congratulations Mario!

Date for next year - The Founding Meeting will be held between the 25th - 28th June.

So, on now on to the Autumn Meeting held at Lundin Golf Club and Elie at the end of August
